ANIMAL WELFARE Build-a-Bear Workshop -- Bearemy's Kennel Pals Program Application Deadline: Grant applications will be reviewed quarterly or on an as-needed basis. Description: One dollar from the sale of each full-sized Bearemy's Kennel PalsŪ friend funds a special quarterly grant-making program to benefit animal shelters and pet-rescue organizations around the country. Funding Amount: Grants will generally range from $1,000 to $10,000. Grant requests should be in line with an organization's overall budget. Who May Apply: Domestic pet programs -- including animal welfare organizations, pet-rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and therapeutic and humane education pet programs -- may apply. Applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations or Canadian registered tax-exempt organizations. Priority will be given to organizations without political or religious affiliations. The program's geographic focus is the United States and Canada, with priority given to organizations located near Build-a-Bear Workshop stores.
For more information, go to: CHILDREN'S LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT The LEGO Group -- LEGO Children's Fund Application Deadline: Ongoing Description: The LEGO Group is committed to helping children develop their creativity and learning skills through constructive play. The LEGO Children's Fund extends this commitment to local and national organizations that support innovative projects and programming to cultivate and celebrate a child's exploration of personal creativity and creative problem solving in all forms. Funding Amount: Typical awards are between $500 and $5,000. Who May Apply: The foundation awards grants to qualified tax-exempt organizations (as determined under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code), including educational organizations as defined in USC 26 § 170(C), with specific, identifiable needs primarily in these areas of support: · early childhood education and development · technology and communication projects that advance learning opportunities · sports or athletic programs that concentrate on underserved youth. Geographic Limitations: While the fund's main interests are local, there are no restrictions based on geography. The LEGO Children's Fund supports local and national programs in the United States. Applications from Connecticut and western Massachusetts may be given preferential consideration, but applications from other geographical areas will not be excluded.

The foundation supports educational programs primarily within three main areas: higher education, classroom teaching and learning, and international education. Who May Apply: 501(c)(3) organizations
For more information, go to: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Open Meadows Foundation Application Deadlines: February 15 and August 15 annually Description: The Open Meadows Foundation offers grants to projects that: · are designed and implemented by women and girls · reflect the diversity of the community served in both their leadership and organization · promote building community power · promote racial, social, economic, and environmental justice · have limited financial access or have encountered obstacles in their search for funding. Organizational budgets should not exceed $150,000. Funding Amount: The foundation makes grants up to $2,000 Who May Apply: Organizations and individuals interested in applying must have tax-exempt status or a fiscal sponsor that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
For more information, go to: HEALTH Walgreens Application Deadline: None Description: Walgreens awards grants in the following program areas: · non-hospital-based health agencies · Walgreens One-on-One tutorial programs in inner-city neighborhoods where Walgreens operates. A small share is reserved for eligible community and social-service agencies that serve areas where Walgreens has a significant presence. Health is a major area of focus, and the largest share of the annual contributions budget is allocated to programs that address health needs. Who May Apply: Most Walgreens grants are made to eligible nonprofits working in local Walgreens communities. A portion of the budget is reserved for select national organizations.
