SBIRT Funding from SAMHSA
Screening, brief intervention, referral and treatment (SBIRT) programs can be funded through grants recently announced by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Interaction of HIV, Drug Use, and the Criminal Justice System Grants
Two agencies in the National Institutes of Health -- the National Institute on Mental Health and the National Institute on Drug Abuse -- will award a total of $3 million in grants to study the linkage of services for HIV and drug use with the criminal-justice system.

Maryland Small Grants Program
Maryland-based nonprofits that provide direct services to poor or vulnerable populations may apply for funding through the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation's Maryland Small Grants Program.

Hilton Gives CASA $1.6 Million for Homeless Housing Project
The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has awarded $1.6 million over four years to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse for a study on a potential model program providing housing and treatment services to homeless individuals with alcohol and other drug problems.

SAMHSA Funds Native American Substance Abuse Center
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration announced that it will spend $1 million to open the Native American Center for Excellence, Prevention Technical Assistance Resource Center -- described as "a first-of-its-kind national Native American-run project to promote effective substance abuse prevention programs in Native American communities throughout the United States."
