KEYS |

KEYS is a group of community members who focus on prevention efforts for children 5-10 years of age. Minutes
of the Keys Meeting December 6, 2001 Elna Kawal called the meeting to order.
It was a surprise for each person to be here with the problem of
finding out where the meeting was going to be.
We hope to do a better job next time for many reasons.
Those attending were Elna, Bonnie Moses, Roger Moses, Judith Morris,
Kathleen Dionne, and Cynthia Martin. Irene
tried very diligently to be at the meeting but we kept cutting her off for
lack of technical skills. Kathleeen talked about the flyer that Judith had Shaine
put on the website. The Elks Club
wants about 150. Judith will
check on another Kiwanis club that might contribute books during the holidays.
Karen Junell will be checking with the Elks in Sequim.
Bonnie will call Elsa who heard that the meeting wasn’t going to
happen. Elsa was gong to contact
the Salvation Army, Jody was going to check about the Sheriffs Department.
Cynthia was supposed to check with Mary Elizabeth and Karen was going
to talk with Community Partners. We
need to move ahead on these contacts. St. Vincent de Paul also does baskets.
Cynthia will contact the Sequim one.
Maybe we need to have groups doing reading corners at some of these toy
give aways during the holiday season or perhaps suggest they give one book to
go with a toy. United Way will handle phone calls that come out of the
poster. We might want to get this
into the newspaper. The connection for First Books and having books in the
grant that Prevention Works is submitting to the Early Learning Foundation.
This grant might be able to match funds for First Books. At Halloween instead of giving candy, we might have KEYS suggest giving books. How neat if we could be known about giving books instead of giving candy. Judith suggested we continue to get the word out to groups and do it for year round. Crescent has a reading project going where there are
prizes for reading. Kathleen
talked about how they could also use books. Elna will check in on the availability of the room at the
Health Department for the 1st or 3rd Thursdays. The meeting was adjourned.
