KEYS is a group of community members who focus on prevention efforts for children 5-10 years of age.
Minutes of the KEYS Meeting The meeting was called to order. Those attending were Bonnie and Roger Moses, Kathleen Dionne, Elna Kawal, and Cynthia Martin. We discussed where we were going with KEYS. It began a little on the discouraging size and then altered to help us realize we have done some significant improvement in the organization. Parenting Matters issue of funding through the Carolyn Foundation Grant was discussed. The place of KEYS and Rock and Roll in Prevention Works! was discussed since this was coming up at the March meeting of Prevention Works! Rock and Roll no longer active. Latino meeting called Building Harmony with the Latino Community was brought up. It significantly emphasized what individuals can do. Perhaps that is a message for us to follow. We also felt we might get some increased involvement when the Forum meets in May. The issue of Prevention Works! becoming a 501 (c)(3) was discussed. We also brought up the coming trainings for instructors at the elementary, middle and high school level. Our significant contribution of the Literacy Calendar was emphasized to remind us of our achievements. We may want to look at budget items to see how we can afford signs to encourage parent involvement or to continue the Parenting Matters newsletter Brainstormed ideas on how we can encourage parent involvement. We thought about doing something involving fathers. We could have Bernie come to speak or emphasize Big Brothers and then have donations welcome. We felt we could emphasize quality time with children. We need to all think about ways to increase parent involvement which we will discuss at the next meeting. The next meeting will be on Monday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m. at Olympic Medical Center. |
