Susan had an idea – to target project for Rock N Roll. Discussion around doing a cover page and making sure the document refers to Clallam County Prevention Works Community Coalition as well as our need to be very clear in what we would be doing. note: one board member stated that as only a member she would give a C because she failed to understand how all the pieces fit together Reasons: * need to increase diversity of the community into more members * need to restart family friendly business *work on a powerpoint presention which includes faces of clients and members of PW * we have room for growth *trainings are good * too heavy a reliance on just a few folks *we do what we say we are going to do * we have established credibility and acomplished a lot * we still don't seem to understand who we are and what is our message and who do we need to reach * it is healthy to question ourselves *we present an annual successful meeting for the community with information that is applicable to everyone *good outreach to the west end * increased awareness and education about tobacco * a fear that since the same folks to most everything when they wear out where will we be? WE need to generate activity and responsiblities for members as well as the board. * remains too abstract for public to understand what we are. * need to do a big concrete project ( ie. dream playground) as a mechanism to educate about prevention. * it has become a "good old girls" network and when I attend meetings I dont' feel like part of the "network" It feels like things are happening ind the scenes. What is your " Big Vision" for PW? 1. Involve PW in the Community Prevention Plan 2. Set up a Task Force on Long Term Funding 3. Encompass more people 4. Our community would become a baby friendly place and meet the WHO guidelines 5. All community groups would work together for prevention 6. Everyone including local government, schools, business citizens would be at the prevention table 7. Creation of a promotional video about prevention which would be updated every two years 8. Advocacy - working legisatively in Olympia, in the community educating the grass roots and education of PW members 9. Working on the wellness of our teens 10. Work with the county support an Olds Model and parenting classes 11. Incorporating the Search Model in our county 12 PW would be a key leader to reduce tobacco use in Clallam County 13. Getting the outreach to create activities that will work toward creating socail change and community norms. 14. PW sponsor community training in the area of adolescent prevention programs much like we currently do for home visiting and parent ed 15. Continue to bring in big $ for local programs 16. To have every elected official and business leader endorse prevention 17. Involve parents on the board and committees and take the lead from them since they are "on the ground" with the problems. Meeting Adjourned Respectfully submitted, Shaine Schramling, Secretary |
