Clallam County Prevention Works!
Community Coalition Jane Shefler, Nancy Martin, Norma Turner, Shaine Schramling, Florence Bucierka, Angie Graff, Jim Borte Angie (Thursdays are the best, Wednesdays o.k.) Jane called the meeting to order December 9 meeting Norma suggested we keep it to Prevention Works! Membership and keep meeting related to Prevention issues. Jane discussed that we talked about doing reception and having catering. Shaine will send out an email – encourage people to bring friends, neighbors, co-workers who are interested in family and children’s prevention issues. Florence will organize presentation on Prevention Works! for the meeting. Agenda Business Portion Nancy asked if we have a backup plan if none of the legislators are unavailable? Norma can also talk about Prevention Pays efforts in Seattle. Florence has a handout on legislative process. Commissioners will be invited. Need to invite mayors. Nancy talked about cities of Sequim & PA having money to distribute for human services (through United Way). Board Membership Strategic Planning Committee Norma, Florence, Nancy, Connie H. They are revamping by-laws and coming up with Articles of Incorporation. Trying to make by-laws and put them in to policies. Have a copy of proposed by-laws. Nancy felt like SP committee will come up with things and propose it to membership. Prevention Works! Forum Next Meeting Wednesday, December 10 at 9:00 a.m. at Olympic Medical Center Things progressing well DASA willing to fund us – Community Prevention Training $ Request Foundation for Early Learning – are willing to look at proposal. Shaine will check with Cynthia who will check with Garrison. Shaine will email Deborah Feldman about January meeting. Network members would also like to attend so she only has to do one presentation. Spanish Training – Translator Issues. Florence – was at meetings last week. She sat in on coalition meeting with Office of Drug Control Policy head. As a follow up to State Incentive Grant ($9 million over 3 years). 2nd set of money – DASA is looking at ages 2-6. Family Policy Council – had a great meeting on early brain research. Norma talked about FPC meeting Violence and video games (Mary Lou Dickerson). Possibly for February meeting – piece on media and violence and its impact on prevention Nancy reported that we will be doing another Family Friendly Business Award Series after the 1st of the year.
