Board Meeting of Prevention Works! Those present were: Gwen Cole, Rachel Anderson, Cynthia Martin, Norma Turner, Florence Bucierka, Shaine Schramling Meeting was called to order Approved minutes of last board meeting 5/26/04 Treasurer’s Report – Balance Sheet passed around $7663. Expenditures – back pay for web site maintenance as well as food for Grant Writing Training for Monday and to Trainer (for travel expenses). CD & Checking Account have 2 separate names so that everything is the same – do it when CD matures in May. Grantwriting Training – Foundation for Early Learning paid for fee for trainer and copies. Registrations – covered travel and food. Community Mobilization gave $500 to co-sponsor. Feedback was useful day. Didn’t have to pay for room. Thank You’s – to College and others (Jennifer Charles) Move and seconded to reaffirm to cosponsorship of Peninsula College Celebration. Clarify that we are willing to support the venture. Discussion: Clarifying that financial support will need to be discussed at another time based on plans that are presented. No option to change use of Foundation for Early Learning Funding. Rock & Roll Transitional Meeting – Tues, June 29 Tobacco – Rachel Anderson - Delivered Smoke Free Certificates to Restaurants. Anti-smoking ordinance is still in limbo. Membership – Gwen Cole - Talking about restructuring committee. Will bring some information to next board meeting. Creating new name for it – getting people interested in Prevention Works! with more defined things to do. Outreach to civic organizations, churches. Cynthia suggested administrators meetings for school districts. Let them know that PW is there, but also give opportunities on how to do individual prevention efforts. Home Visiting – Pam Arnott - Recently sent out an email to look at strategic planning effort. Nurse-midwife – Bruce Shepard – Bootcamp for Dads. Education and support for dads for prenatal and perinatal – childbirth education course, anticipating planning for being with new baby. Follow up curriculum as well. Steve Chapman has approached Pam more than once about doing something for dads on the Peninsula. Add to alternate list. Discussion of fathering group – Bernie Dorsey – Conscious Fathering (Seattle, Cynthia & Shaine know). Shaine – Web Site suggestions are always welcome Parenting Education Summit – October 1 with Kevin Haggerty at Olympic Medical Center Florence – CSAP – willing to fund training of model programs in state of WA. Group came up with Focus on Families (Parents in Recovery), Strengthening Families – Florence sent those off to Scott Waller yesterday. Did not do proposal for mentoring piece for Drug Free Communities Coalition. Needed $75,000 match. Nancy Martin sent proposal – from Feds on early learning opportunities Discretionary Grant Program. Deadline July 27. Sounds like something worth pursuing. Just comes open periodically. Whether United Way would pay for Grant Writer is open for discussion. Florence will send out more information today. Shaine – Reminder on Strategic Planning Sheet – Send out Northwest Indian Health Conference – 3rd Week in July at Red Lion – Drug Court & Treatment in Rural Counties. Norma – met with Pam – and will meet with Nita – starting with Home Visitor Providers. Hoping to come up with grant proposal – basic tenant – Clallam County – pilot project for Universal Home Visiting, Literacy, Parenting Matters Foundation, 1.5 Million a year.
