PW Board of Directors Attendees: Angie Graff, Pam Arnott, Norma Turner, Connie Hyatt, Jane Shefler, Shaine Schramling, Cynthia Martin, Kathleen Dionne, Ida Carroll, Jody Jacobsen Angie called the meeting to order. Norma asked about if PW has theme or plan for upcoming year. Jane talked about the Prevention Works meeting programs having topics be prevention related and topics of interest and useful for us as members to know about. Connie H. asked about relevance with Comprehensive Prevention Plan. As we understand it, there is no county plan yet. Cynthia also talked about Communities that Care and wondering if emphasis has been taken off the Prevention Plan. · Countywide plan (Florence) · Communities that Care (UW) · Prevention Works! One Goal of PW was to develop county wide Prevention Plan. Norma discussed maybe that be a goal for Prevention Works toward Prevention Plan. Big plan to get lots of community players involved – maybe we need discussion with Florence to figure out what is next. Norma has State-wide prevention plan – what do schools, lawyers, doctors do related to Prevention. Connie H. talked about schools, law enforcement having already been part of PW. Norma discussed need to be more concrete in our goals – to find out what piece each group is doing. Pam – what PW has accomplished is pulling people together from different areas as well as collaboration in prevention. What Pam hears – define need it to be more succinct on how to pull in other pieces of community. Connie H. discussed importance of pulling together and involving more people. Cynthia talked about the large number of people who came to Foundation for Early Learning because funding was there. Norma suggested for next board meeting find out from Florence what has happened on Prevention Plan and where to go next. Jane talked about need for big kick-off meeting for September – there is a lot of community interest in Prevention right now. Cynthia talked about someone from PW to look at funding opportunities for Prevention Works! that might be worth pursuing. Norma discussed how we can coordinate with other entities – especially the Clallam County Community Network. They are in state of high transition – lacking members, but funding is there. Norma suggested we have some PW people go to Network to work together – maybe even coordinate our meetings together. Shaine suggested we don’t pull programming committee back together until after next board meeting. Cynthia said that if we’re going to look at overall plan – we really ought to be put forth in that way. Connie asked if we are looking at targeting the overall Prevention Plan for next year. Next Year's Meeting Ideas: Pregnant/Parenting Teens (November) Don Zanon, Peninsula Community Mental Health
·
We looked at board meeting schedule – but decided to leave
it as this point.
· Resource Development committee – Norma discussed there may be need to hire someone – maybe funding with network. Jane discussed there being no money at this point – figuring out what services county can provide this and then approach someone. We’re not sure if this is a volunteer or if this is a hired position. May be that this is a service the county could provide. May be premature to discuss this. Will discuss more at next board meeting · Ida asked about Karen Meyer and if county is going after Federal Funding. Communities that Care is NOT countywide. Karen is hired to be coordinator – totally separate from what Florence and county wide plan and totally separate from what Debra Sharp who had been working on SAMHSA grant. Need to talk with Florence to figure out what is going on. · Non-profit status – Jane o Have 4 packets – for Angie, Ida, Connie/Norma – distribute 501(c)3 application. Needs help in some areas. Need to come up with little paragraphs about what we do. § Need to develop a true budget. She can talk with Charlie McClain § Going to say we have budget less than $10,000 so application fee is $150
o
Essentially, application is not as complicated as Jane
thought it would be. o Next meeting we’ll discuss more o Opened bank account yesterday and needs signatures. o Jane will send Ida the link. Committee updates o Rock N Roll: Jody Jacobsen gave report. Community Justice Supervisor Position Eliminated – needs to turn over to community based support. A lot of people who participated in Rock N Roll – was very beneficial. Still may be core group of representatives who may be interested in keeping it going. Tempest is going through some transition. Ross was going to leave, but may be staying on in different capacity. § It is still standing committee and Pete would like to see it continue and the name remain § Jody is asking for guidance from Prevention Works as to direction to go. § Norma suggested that Rock N Roll come to PW and tell us what their direction is going to be. § Seems like what needs to happen – have a meeting to pull people together and let that group decide what will happen. § Kathleen suggested bringing in people to regular Prevention Works meetings § Norma suggested having tangible goal for KEYS and Rock N Roll § Connie suggested that Strategic Planning Committee could look at Business Plan. Could find it easier to connect if there were some goals and outcomes. Could give us a framework. o Ida talked about – if Rock N Roll could look at restorative justice – that’s what Juvenile Services – funding her position, mentoring, restitution, had a lot of things in place that was funded and the money is no longer there. There were community persons that would come and do information services. PW Board agreed that the information sharing that was occurring. Jody is managing detention center now. o Keys – working on refocusing direction and connecting to school readiness transition.
