Executive Committee Minutes

Minutes of Clallam County Prevention Works!  Community Coalition
January 4, 2002 at First Teacher

The meeting was called to order by Cynthia Martin since Jane was coming a bit late.  Those attending were Diana Assumpcao, Florence Bucierka, Elna Kawal, Nita Quan, Jim Borte, Nancy Martin, Brenda Butterfield, Fiona Hert, Debra Sharp, Jane Sheffeld, and Cynthia Martin.

New Prevention Specialist

Debra Sharp, the new prevention specialist for the county was introduced.  At the next meeting, her duties will be presented to the group.

Coming Meeting

Agenda and speakers for the next meeting were discussed.  We felt there was a need to have more extensive reports from the Home Visiting Summit group, the Big Event, and the Parent Education group.  We also need to begin to plan the Annual Meeting for March.  Reestablishing the Ad Hoc Child Abuse Prevention Committee for this year should also be included.  Because of this, the group felt we might not want a lot more on for a program for that event.

(Special Note from the Secretary:  The group could not remember what we had originally scheduled for our upcoming speakers.  After checking our previous minutes, I found we were going to focus on Special Education Programs in Clallam County, not on school programs.  We might want to consider this in future plans.)

General Map of Coming Meetings

January -- More extensive reports from Committees, Legislative Information, Time change

February -- Reports from Each Agency and Nominations of New Board Members

March -- Annual Meeting with Emphasis on Visioning for our Future.

April -- Child Abuse and CASA with Carol Huard

            May

            June

            September – Special Education?

Secretarial Position

The need to break the position of secretary down to two jobs was discussed.  The web functions should be handled separately.  The possibility of paying to have this done was discussed.  Shaine Schramling will be asked to submit a proposal to the Board.

Time Change for Meeting

The need for a time change was discussed.  The group was all in favor of moving ahead to make the change to daytime meeting instead of our 4:00 time.  The group decided to check on several places and move meeting to daytime.  The decision (after Nita made a couple of calls on availability) was to change the meeting to the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. at Juvenile Court.  Pete will call Jane about the meeting and give her the phone numbers for Mary Jacoby for the telelinking.

Annual Meeting

Jane broke her resolution to not speak and give her opinion and spoke her opinion (her resolution last four days, 9 hours and 37 minutes).  Maybe we need to review goals and then have fun.  Nita discussed visioning or mind mapping.  How do we put things together to move forward?  How do we keep the energy moving forward?  Possibilities for people to do this were discussed.  This meeting will still be on Monday at 4:00 p.m. on the March 11.  We will try to really encourage attendance and the meeting does not lend itself to telelinking.  A possible location for the meeting was discussed.  Something friendly is important.  Jane and Diana can explore this issue and move ahead on talking with potential speakers or group leaders.

Family Friendly Business Committee

Nancy brought up the need to send out letters to 200 businesses for the Family Friendly Business Committee.  The cost will be about $75.  It was moved and seconded and passed to pay for this cost.

Foundation for Early Learning Contact

We received the money from the Foundation for Early Learning but Fiona reminded people we need to give them credit in the publicity.
