Board Meeting
Jane Shefler – handed out Annual Meeting Summary. Jane will call Carol Huard to discuss speaking at April 9 meeting about CASA. Introductions were made. Jane: Discussed several resignations on the board and the need to address those. Brenda Butterfield has resigned as chair of Strategic Planning Committee. Need to find someone for Committee. Will put it out at next meeting. Jan Laine volunteered to chair if appropriate. Jan expressed concern about having someone who was not on the committee last year. It is a finishing project. Connie Hyatt, Carol Huard, Brenda Butterfield, Jan Laine, Florence Bucierka were on board last year. Mel Melmed has resigned as membership chair. Susan Suprenant from Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe has already begun to take over responsibilities for membership chair. Florence has asked Diana and Nita and DSFS training (demonstration project) for homevisitors. Focusing on small part of county about partnering. Not sure if there is money to expand it county wide to have Prevention Works! Co-sponsor. May 7 Training, Linkletter, Marian Birch and Sandra Jolly. Registration going out April 8. Stipends available. Diana: Child Abuse Prevention Month – signs are already up on commuter buses. Jan is planning memorial April 26 at Veteran’s Park. Florence has ordered memorial flag – children who have died from violence. Carol Huard is working on display board that will be displayed throughout the county. PSA’s going out. Someone suggested PW! Do an award to recognize group working in this area. Motion was made to do a recognition plaque. Diana will order it. Shaine will e-mail possible script to Diana to present. It was discussed that Prevention Works would honor groups on yearly basis that are working on behalf of children. Big Event: Made enough money. Membership will vote at April meeting to pay Shaine Schramling for web site design and maintenance. Made approximately $1300 after paying for books and senior class parents. Senior Class parents were paid $172.50 and made $100 in donations. Evaluations were positive. Event that was accessible to broad group of people. Got Prevention Works! Name out there. Flyers to schools were not distributed. Agenda for next meeting Carol Huard – CASA presentation Annual Meeting Report Big Event Report (including financial) Business Items Approval for webmaster pay Strategic Planning Carolyn Foundation RFP Committee Reports Reading & Literacy issues were discussed. Need a thread of commonality. Kathleen discussed how literacy is not just about reading and is a lot about positive relationships with parents and children. Florence is working on County Wide Prevention Plan – working on planning a meeting 2nd week of April. Jan would take Annual Meeting information to Strategic Planning Committee. Analysis on comparison between Don’s summary and Cynthia’s notes from Annual Meeting. Jane brought group up to date on Carolyn Foundation and discussed need to work on this for the RFP process this spring. Gave 200,000. Distributed $100,000 first year. Money dispersed (50%). Idea that there would be a second RFP procedure. Home visiting, parent ed component – classes and elementary newsletters. United Way has been fiscal agent. Held back 10% for evaluation. Jan talked about positives of agency collaboration on Carolyn Foundation RFP process. Discussion about Early Learning Grant. After meeting over, e-mail sent out saying we did not receive funding. Executive Committee Meeting: John Beitzel, Shaine Schramling, Angie Graff, Jan Laine, Jane Shefler. Board elections were held. Jane Shefler will be President for one more lear, Jan Laine will serve as Vice President, Shaine Schramling will be Secretary/Treasurer and Angie Graff & John Beitzel will be at-large members.
