Susan Surprenant, Florence Bucierka, Angie Graff, Nancy Martin, Jane Shefler, Nita Quan, Norma Turner, Shaine Schramling, Jody Jacobsen

Jane called the meeting to order

Big Event – We discussed whether or not we want to piggy back with OPAEYC. Looking in to Terry Tafoya ($3500 per day) plus we pay for travel, and lodging. Approximate cost if $4500. The Hospital is interested in co-sponsoring. Jane felt like Friday night was not best night. Florence brought up that the OPAEYC and Event with speaker should be totally separate. Florence said we should come up with a committee to look at these issues. Foundation for Early Learning has grant for conferences. Web site for Terry Tafoya is www.tamanawit.com. Angie talked about maybe we can get some tribal funds to help fund it. Norma asked if Angie knew how much the Hospital would have – no numbers have been discussed at this point. Looking at March 2003.

Shaine will send an e-mail to get a committee meeting – Monday July 1, Olympic Medical Center Meeting Room B 8:00 a.m.

September Meeting

Meeting Time – Shaine send e-mail: 2nd Monday of each month – Hospital September 9, October 14, November 11? Veterans Day, December 9, January 13, February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9

Strategic Plan – Norma has been brought up to date. Concern is that while the Strategic Plan has been completed, there is no sense of ownership by board or membership. Need plan for board to review and adopt. Annual meeting next year can revisit Strategic Plan. Committee has asked if board at each meeting would have discussion about topic or line of strategic plan – then there would be formal approval. The Strategic Planning committee would also be willing to organize the non-profit organizational meeting. Proposed for July 23. Found Jennifer Sacarto will talk about issues related to non-profit status. Looking to find coalition in Washington State who has gone through something similar. Florence has some potential contacts. Will then have general discussion with Scott Waller who can come on 30th  but not the 23rd.  Norma has asked if she can move to the 30th. Would be at Juvenile Services. Would be specific informational meeting 4-6 p.m. Food will be available.

Florence discussed that annual plan meeting priorities and mission and vision were all looked at in developing the strategic plan. Committee tried to use as many resources within membership to incorporate it. Strategic plan would be willing to meet to revisit the strategic plan.

Document has gone to board once but never has come to membership for a vote. There were word changes. Nancy suggested it go through board again. The strategic plan in on the web site and is available for review. Florence talked about the importance of not doing it yearly. Norma talked about needing to have mission words in layman terms.

Shaine send an e-mail. July 25 Board Meeting Sequim– Look at Strategic Plan. Do your homework. Board Meeting.

Distributing Lists (PA Rec wants business list) – Strategic Planning will wok on a policy about distributing our list. Kids Fest list Nancy is willing to provide. Will also send out via e-mail.

Florence – discussed that maybe we need policy to make sure we use a consistent description of what Prevention Works is – so when things go out in paper, memorials, etc. If you have anything says Prevention Works is . . . Memorial service was very religious, speaker talking about prayer in schools. Need to have better control with what Prevention Works is associated with. Run things for media through Jim Borte first. Want Prevention Works name to be recognized. There was a nice article in Gazette about Prevention Works!

Jane discussed that we need to advertise ourselves better. Discussion about changing mission.

Email mission suggestions to Norma. Do this a week before the board meeting.
