Business Meeting

Last summer – discussion at Juvenile Services – there was talk about the mission, what Prevention Works is, whether to apply for 501c3 status. After that meeting, the Strategic Planning started meeting to put bylaws, policies and procedures into a format that if we pursue 501c3 status, we’d have things in order.

q       Discussion and confusion over mission – it was too long, said too much.

q       Simplifying mission statement

New mission statement:

The mission of Clallam County Prevention Works! Community Coalition is to prevent child abuse and neglect, substance abuse and violence in Clallam County.

Policy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 are all policies we’ve already had. Much of the language came from what came out of bylaws.

Motion and second to accept proposed bylaws to be proposed to membership next meeting.

Discussion around D6c – external audit – have external review to be done annually.

Policy 6 – Motion and second to accept policy 6. So moved.

Articles of Incorporation – Jane has basic articles for non-profit organization. Incorporating as non-profit. Currently are 501c6.  Federal ID then you become 501c3 in state of Washington.

Discussion of liability.

2 pronged-process:

  1. Incorporate with state
  2. Apply for tax exempt status with Federal Government

It was moved and seconded that Prevention Works seek non-profit corporation status.

Nominating Committee – Kathleen Dionne, Norma Turner, Shaine Schramling, Pam Arnott

Respectfully submitted,

Shaine Schramling
PW Secretary
