Family Friendly Business Presentation  (Nancy Martin)
Began in September to look at awarding Family Friencdly Businesses in Clallam County. Nominated by employees and customers. Goal was to nominate throughout the county. 3 major components of what as looked at

Extras that maintain quality employees (paid personal days for kids conferences, go on field trip, flexible work times, would employees be able to work at home if child sick, health and dental care for all employees, child care reimbursements, ability to bring infants to work.

Investment in the physical environment (space for kids with books, toys, pillows; ADA enhancements – ramps, handrails, changing stations in both men’s and women’s bathrooms)

Positive supportive atmosphere in the workplace

Here today to honor first 5 recipients of Family Friendly Business Award

Other Business

Foundation for Early Learning Update - Flyers with this years recipients passed out. Cynthia and Shaine attended the meeting held by the FEL in Seattle. There was discussion about what makes for successful collaborations – lots of groups around state seem to be struggling with collaboration. We talked about Prevention Works! and how among other things, the trainings that have been offered have been outstanding asset to our community

Carolyn Foundation RFP - Committee includes the Prevention Works Board of Directors whose organization is not applying for funding. Two people who are not part of the board of directors – Patty Hannah (United Way), Carol Huard (PW Member).

After two initial meetings, applications for renewals and one for new applicants became available. Bidder’s conference was yesterday with one participant. Applications are due May 31. Email Patty Hannah right away (unitedway@tenforward.com) if you would like an application.

Training for working with Latino Population (Rural Health Grant) is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 9:00 a.m. in Forks. View flyer 

Training for FAS/FAE – (Susan Surprenant). Sponsored by DCFS. Free. May 29 8:30-Noon at PA City Council Chambers. Susie Kuerschner, M.Ed. is national speaker (Beyond Doom & Gloom).

Grant training for writing grant objectives. June 18 PA City Council Chambers, 10:30-3:00. Limited Seating

Parent Ed
On Hiatus. Will be rescheduling soon. May 30? as possibility

Home Visiting
On Hiatus. Nita is out of country. Meet once or twice in summer to gear up for next home visiting summit.

KEYS
On Hiatus. Did not get funded on some grant applications. Will meet beginning in August.

Membership
Susan is having a meeting. Thursday, May 30 9:00 a.m. Bonnie’s Bakery. Needs some veteran Prevention Works members – what we are doing, what we can do differently, how to bring folks in who haven’t been there before. We do have a new member, RN Quileute Tribal Health Clinic. Jennifer Charles has membership packets.

Strategic Planning
Norma Turner is going to take the chair of Strategic Planning. Corrected e-mail is normagene@olympus.net – (Shaine will get up on web site)

Jan acknowledged the work of the Child Abuse Prevention Month committee.

Heirloom Birth Certificates – Norma Turner has applications. Started through WCPCAN. $14.50 of $25 is tax-deductible. Will pass out flyers.

Florence was gone. Jennifer has evaluations from Annual Meeting for participants to fill out.

The Future of Children – Home Visiting Program Book Evaluation. Also on-line.

Mike Doherty: has set of 5 or 6 reports from the series. Will get them to CCHHS. Ask library if they have copies because they are free. Mike Doherty acknowledged work of Rene Martinez with Health & Human Services Tobacco Free Work as she prepares to move back to Alaska with her family.

Cherie Reeves-Speer announced May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. Still have increasing rates in Clallam County. Family Planning Clallam County – abstinence only training, as well as services.

Cynthia suggested after meeting was adjourned that we add West End as it’s own committee so they will have contributions for each meeting.
