Update on Non-Profit Status & Treasurer’s Report - Jane Shefler
Approved by State of Washington as Non-Profit Organization, have articles of incorporation and bylaws that were approved by membership. Have IRS number now. Need formal resolution from membership authorizing opening of bank account and who signatories are: Corporate Officers. Washington Mutual – essentially free bank account. They will no longer honor requirement of 2 signatures, but have it as internal policy to have 2 signatures. Nita Q. suggested that not having the treasurer sign the checks – another check and balance. Jane reported we have done more business this year than in years past. Right now our bylaws require 2 signatures. Will discuss at the upcoming board meeting. Jane will be gone for board meeting. Shaine moved, Norma seconded that we open bank account and authorize executive board as signatories and board will have more discussion about safeguarding. Norma thought we could come up with details through Strategic Planning Committee or Board Meeting. John V. asked Nita if there is a policy limit. Nita: someone opens checks and has different person who signs checks. Jane: we have policy in place on what can be approved by just Executive Committee and what needs to go to the membership. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: A lot of money in and out. Forum: made about $3000 and have spent $4700. Have a grant from DASA for $5000 that will cover most of the expenses. Have not yet been reimbursed.

Jane handed out Profit and Loss sheet. Rolled over CD as per last membership meeting (almost $2800).

Update on Prevention Works Forum: You’re Part of It - Florence Bucierka
Summary of evaluation data (quantitative piece) from Forum was handed out. There was a lot of good publicity. Many sponsorships came in. We have an opportunity to build on that. She gave some of the comments. Dr. John Medina was very well received.

Update on Community Needs Assessment (June 4, 2003) - Florence Bucierka
25 people attended. #1 risk factor that all three groups identified was Family Management Problems. #2 risk factor (2 of 3 groups chose) – Early initiation of problem behavior. This is a piece that can be used by agencies in grant writing – those that require needs assessments. For more information or for a packet, please contact Florence Bucierka fbucierka@co.clallam.wa.us or 417-2366.
