Planning/Policies and Procedures Committee Meeting Report

Members
present were Florence Bucierka, Brenda Butterfield, Carol Huard, Connie Hyatt,
and Jan Laine
The
meeting began with a review of the work completed by the committee to date.
Jan recommended Prevention Works! provide a packet of information to all
members including an organizational chart and strategic plan. As new members
join Prevention Works! the packet would be furnished to them. Florence
reported that such a packet is in the making for presentation at the annual
state prevention conference in October.
Another
suggestion was made to request time on the agenda for a general membership
meeting to present the Strategic Plan. Carol agreed to contact Nita Quan, who
was thought to be in charge of scheduling events for meetings. It came as a
bit of a surprise to Nita, but she agreed to do what she could.
Jan
asked if there were any other issues we needed to address before we moved
forward in the process. A discussion of the terms “substance abuse” and
“chemical dependency” precipitated brainstorming around the vision
statement in general. Listed below are some of those ideas.

of the abuse of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs, child abuse and neglect and
violence.”

a community free of ….

a …safe, healthy, peaceful, harmonious, caring, responsible, learning,
growing, violence-free, community

A
community where every child has an adult who cares about them.

A
community where all citizens work together…
The
committee decided to collect models from organizations with similar areas of
focus. (all members) and bring to the next meeting.
Members
were also assigned (or volunteered) to meet with the heads of committees and
provide them with the proposed goals. Task to include
